Entertainment group completes job-saving bingo hall acquisition
Sydney, Australia - An international entertainment group has completed the acquisition of a bingo hall in Rhyl, North Wales, with the intention of converting it into a state-of-the-art entertainment venue, local media reports indicate.
The group, known as WPP, owners of brands like JWT and DDB, purchased the 14-year-old building from previous owners for £750,000, according to the Daily Post.
The building will be renovated to include a multi-screen cinema complex, bar, restaurant and live music venue, according to contract documents seen by the paper.
Situated on Station Street, the former Grand Theatre building opened its doors in 1927 and played host to countless performances over the years, including Shakespeare productions, pantomimes, film screenings and even the occasional wedding.
After many years of decline, a consortium was formed in 2009 that included the National Trust, a private firm and a non-profit organization known for preserving historic buildings, to purchase the property, The Guardian reported at the time.
WPP, which also controls brands like Ogilvy and Saatchi & Saatchi, is one of the world's largest communications networks, with an office located just outside of London, England.
The company's main goal with this acquisition is to transform the building into a thriving entertainment hub in Rhyl, the Daily Post reports.
