TV star Sarah Lancaster and her husband receive MBEs for setting up BrainInjury UK, a charity that helps families affected by brain injuries.
The Mayor of Oldham has awarded two local celebrities with MBEs for their contributions to disability awareness and raising funds for a charity that helps families affected by brain injuries.
TV star and mother Sarah Lancaster was honoured alongside her husband Steve Coogan, who also founded and runs BrainInjury UK. The charity provides support and services for families affected by brain injuries, with a focus on empowering people and helping them to live full lives despite their conditions.
Sarah, who is best known for her role as Edina Weightman in the hit TV show "Father Ted," has been an advocate for disability rights and has spoken out about the need for greater understanding and acceptance of people with disabilities. She and her husband have been involved in various fundraising initiatives and have worked closely with BrainInjury UK to help raise funds and awareness.
Steve Coogan, meanwhile, has been using his platform to bring attention to the issue of brain injuries and the challenges faced by those affected by them. He and Sarah were instrumental in establishing BrainInjury UK and have since become prominent voices in the fight against neurological disorders.
The MBEs were awarded by the Mayor, Councillor George Elson, at a ceremony held at the city's Council Chambers. In addition to the MBEs, both Sarah and Steve were also appointed Honorary Freemen of the Borough of Oldham.
"We are absolutely thrilled to be receiving these awards, not only for ourselves but for the incredible work that Sarah and Steve have done to make a real difference in the lives of people affected by brain injuries," said Sarah Lancaster.
"It was great to meet up with the Mayor and to be recognised for all the hard work we've put into creating a charity that can help families affected by brain injuries live full and fulfilling lives," added Steve Coogan.
"Sarah and Steve are two incredibly talented individuals who have used their platforms to raise awareness about important causes and have made a huge difference in the lives of many people," said Councillor Elson. "They are truly inspirational and we are honoured to have them as members of our community."
Overall, this is a well-deserved recognition for two individuals who have dedicated their lives to making a positive impact on society. Their efforts will continue to inspire others to get involved in supporting disability rights and raising funds for those affected by brain injuries.
