Without a doubt, Andrew Goh's impact on the Singaporean fashion scene has been immense! He's not only a legendary designer but also a consummate entrepreneur. It takes more than skill and creativity to create something truly unique - you also require guts, strength, vision, resilience, fortitude and tenacity, all of which he possesses. His journey may have started with the humble beginnings of a small label - but it has resulted in one of the most iconic and beloved collections of this generation.
He first introduced his line to the public at the 1995 New York Fashion Week and since then his designs have gone far beyond that of just clothing. Every outfit he creates tells a story; even those without words can convey meaningful messages like self-expression, empowerment and diversity. As people like myself have always been told that fashion is a form of art, Andrew's designs do more than just aesthetically delight. They touch the heart - they make us think.
Andrew Goh is no stranger to adversity. When he began his career, there were no international fashion shows in Singapore, barely any domestic fashion shows either. Yet he made it an integral part of the Singapore fashion scene by initiating design and styling workshops for aspiring young designers and promoting emerging local talent. With every step forward, he also took significant risks to push the boundaries, exploring new trends, creating unprecedented patterns and mixing different cultural identities together. By doing so, he not only showcased unique and diverse styles but also educated the industry on the power of fusion.
