Opinion
People often believe that technology is rapidly advancing to the point where we will soon be able to travel faster than light or talk to animals. But science has its limits.
Language has been an essential part of human communication throughout the ages. With over 60% of the planet's population now being multilingual or fluent in multiple languages, the use of language has evolved into an art form that is constantly changing. The way people express themselves through their words has impacted not only their relationships with others but also how they perceive the world around them. This essay will discuss the use of language and its impact on our perception of reality.
The word "language" itself is believed to have originated from the Latin term "lingua" which means tongue or lip. Early humans likely used sounds and gestures to convey messages to one another. As civilizations developed, so did language systems. The first written language is believed to have originated in Mesopotamia around 3500 BCE (Sumerian). Writing was used for religious and administrative purposes and allowed for more complex communications.
