Former Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez warns that Galicia could see another radical branch of government at the polls if tensions continue to rise.

As tensions rise ahead of Spain's upcoming general election, former Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has warned that the Galician autonomous community could see another 'radical' branch of government at the polls.

In an interview with the Spanish national radio network RNE, Feijoo addressed his concerns about the current political situation in Galicia, which has been embroiled in a bitter debate over independence.

When asked about the possibility of a new party emerging from the PSOE's left-wing wing, Feijoo stated, "I think there is no doubt that if it happens, it will be another radical branch. The PSOE is not united and has divisions within itself, and some of its members are taking a more extreme line than others."

He added that "the PSOE's left-wing wing is divided, and there are different opinions within it on how to proceed. Some want to remain part of the national political process, while others want to create their own system, whether that means holding a referendum or not."

The former head of the Galician state administration noted that this division has led to polarization among the population and has contributed to the growing sense of alienation and disillusionment with the current political establishment.

Feijoo highlighted the role of media influence in exacerbating these divisions and urged citizens to engage constructively in the political process.

"I believe that the media plays an important role in shaping public opinion and influencing the way people think," he said. "And as a result, we need to take account of what is being said and done in order to ensure that our politics reflect the views and aspirations of the citizenry."

In conclusion, while Feijoo acknowledges the importance of free expression and political dissent, he also stresses the need for respectful dialogue and civic engagement in order to address the pressing issues facing Spain and to build a more inclusive and democratic society.
