Man who investigated sexual abuse accusation is sentenced to two years
This is an article written by BBC Correspondent David Davis, the headline reads "Crime Agency Chief Strikes Off After Misconduct Hearing".
Sir Paul Begg, 58, was facing a disciplinary investigation into allegations of sexism at the Metropolitan Police Service that he used his position for personal gain in a £2,000 taxi deal with a former partner. He is one of the most senior policemen ever to face a misconduct inquiry.
According to police, Mr Begg, the head of London's Serious Organised Crime Agency, paid backdated expenses of more than £17,000 while also claiming a £3,000 taxi bill last year. In an email to colleagues he referred to himself as a "police officer".
The official disciplinary decision may end Sir Paul's career in the force. If found guilty he could be dismissed from the service and banned for life. He would also be barred from working in any capacity for the police or security industry.
It was unclear whether Sir Paul had yet told his story before Wednesday's meeting.
